Animal Control Information

The mission of Lakewood Animal Control is to provide safety and public service to citizens while protecting the welfare of animals through enforcement and education.

  • The maximum number of household pets allowed per household is five.
  • No more than three of any species are allowed (example: three cats and two dogs or three dogs and two cats)
  • Service animals, such as seeing-eye or assist dogs, are allowed in addition to household pets.

Animal Control officers provide services involving animal-related offenses of the municipal code. These include responding to leash law violations, number of household pets, investigating animal cruelty, neglect, animal noise complaints, regulating aggressive and dangerous animals, rabies control, bite investigations and dog licensing. Other services we provide include wildlife conflict-monitoring and educational presentations.

Animal Control is staffed seven days a week, including holidays.  Although hours vary, they extend beyond normal business hours.
